Followed his betrothed, Isawa Shizuko, out of the Phoenix lands until he was recalled to return without saying a word.
-
He up and left. Gone from his bed! No note! His betrothed was temporarily heartbroken before she somehow forgot him.
tsuruchi ishizu | deceased
-
Arrived in Fa Ring Ye as part of the Mantis delegation, and stayed to court Isawa Shizuko and oversee the Merchant quarter. Died fighting the Dark Moto General before the end of court.
-
Died to the Dark Moto General at the Battle of Summer Rain.
moto tsunari | deceased
-
Was sent to Fa Ring Ye as part of the Unicorn reinforcements. Ended up being the sole survivor of an Oni attack before arriving to Fa Ring Ye. Joined the ranks of the Lords of the city, and aided them in combating the corruption of the province. Rode his final ride in the battle of the Crystal Meggido.
-
Was smooshed by an oni at the Siege of Crystal Megiddo while drawing attention from Matsu-dono and retrieving one of the spikes of red jade being shot by the Crab Clan’s ballista - the “Eye Piercer”.
Shizuko’s words on the deceased:
“Moto died today. I grieve his loss. He was not someone I exactly meshed with, but he was a good man. He was an honorable samurai that all samurai should hope to behave like on the battlefield. He was more prone to material indulgences than I think one should be, but he always tried to act with honor and kept a note of those who surrounded him however he felt about them personally.
He showed me kindness and consideration when the city and others were not inclined to do so. His sword and his guidance will be missed. I wish I had gotten a chance to tell him that I appreciated him.”
shosuro kazuya | deceased?
-
Kazuya served for a time on the wall with the Crab, learning their ways and keeping the Rokugan protected. It is not known why he was called back, but he was assigned by Bayushi Siig to be the yojimbo of his betrothed - Isawa Shizuko.
-
The Siege of Crystal Megiddo claimed many lives and Kazuya’s is no exception. In the depths of the Shadowed Keep what was left of the group of young samurai met the leaders of the enemy forces as they fled. One of those leaders was known to Kazuya - his love that he had thought lost and whom his heart still belonged to.
Through manipulation and maho, she took over Kazuya’s mind and controlled his actions. He turned on his ward and began his assault. Though attempts were made to stop the pair, he succeeded in beheading Shizuko. This seemed to give him a moment of clarity and in that moment he took his own life.
isawa kogen | ascended
-
Kogen’s family had been thought to have lost the secrets to a powerful spell and thus had been dishonored. At the beginning of the story Kogen himself was “not people” as the rest of the group put it. He had the good fortune, however, to somehow be betrothed to Sakiko - one of the Isawa sisters.
The sisters became the lords of Fa Ring Ye and chose to elevate their fellow young samurai to lords along with them - including Kogen. He was a powerful water tensai who enjoyed games, gambling (too much), and ramen. It could be said that he helped put Ji-chan’s ramen house on the map.
When he wasn’t gaming, he was spending time with his betrothed and his ever-present water kami. He was fond of and good friends with Kakita Kazekama and the two could often be found rolling dice together.
-
Kogen perished at the Siege of Crystal Megiddo, but gave his life’s essence to help his fellow samurai at the end. He sacrificed all that he was to enact Crystal Megiddo, showing that his family had not actually lost the knowledge, but had hidden it to protect it.
Kogen’s sacrifice created a rain of pure crystal that healed his allies and caused harm to those infected by the Shadowlands Taint. This was a crucial turning point in the battle and allowed the rest of the gathered forces to make the final push to take down the Shadowed Keep and the enemy forces within. The Crystal Lake now stands where he gave his life to turn the tides of battle and he has ascended to become the water kami of that lake.
isawa sakiko | ascended
-
Sister to Isawa Shizuko and betrothed to Isawa Kogen. She has a friendly kami named Tusan Wo who appears most often as electricity running through her hair. She and Tusan Wo loved to play pranks on people which has caused trouble in the past. Also she gives away trees.
-
After the Siege of Crystal Megiddo the sculpture competition that Kogen had been planning was held. The statues that were not chosen to adorn the fountain at Fa Ring Ye became pure crystal and escorted Sakiko to the Crystal Lake. She is now an unending storm rages above the Crystal Lake.
doji kazekama | retired
-
Formerly Kakida Kazekama, he was betrothed to Doji Kaori - sister to Crane Clan Champion, Doji Toshiro. Currently has two concubines that have returned to the Crane Clan after being a part of the Sisters of the Free Tide (“affectionately” referred to as his Water Hoes or Water Bitches). He is also the fixation of one Shosuro-san, a courtier who keeps residence in the Scorpion embassy at Fa Ring Ye.
With the help of his comrades he cut through the wall of the keep at the Siege of Crystal Megiddo. Kazekama ultimately fell under the many knees of Gensu no Oni…or did he?
-
Kazekama had fallen to Gensu no Oni, however the kisses on his cheeks from his two concubines - the Crane Sisters - saved him. He was recovered from the battleground and brought back to health, waking a week later.
After the battle, he has married into the Doji family and resides in Fa Ring Ye as a sitting lord. In the year that followed he welcomed his first son and two servants of the heir.
Utakku hannako | retired
-
A wild and fearless Utakku Battle Maiden who is “very good friends”, “roommates”, “battle buddies” with Matsu Chizuru - the daughter of the venerated Lion general Matsu who fought at the Battle of Black Hare’s Keep on the very spot where Fa Ring Ye now sits.
One of the survivors of the Siege of Crystal Megiddo and a fearsome Battle Maiden to behold as she rides her battle steed, the honorable Maximus, into battle. She worries not about not being able to cut something with her bisento, but about running out of sake, hoes, and kimonos.
-
Utakku has stepped down from being a lord of Fa Ring Ye to become a Jade Magistrate and to aid her companion Isawa Shizuko in her quest for the truth of what the hell is going on.
While Maximus enjoys a liesurely breeding schedule, Hannako has joined a new group of young and ambitious samurai. Will they suss out what the 13 from the mountain were doing? Who the heck knows! But Hannako will be doing it in style from the back of Lady, her second most trusted battle steed.
isawa shizuko | deceased
-
Sister to Isawa Sakiko and betrothed to Bayushi Shiig. She has “Disturbing Countenance” due to permanent wave pattern bruising, and has technically died twice and has bonded with her ward, a qui lin that she houses in her personal void “bubble”. Black hair that seems to get more gold streaks the more a certain player dies (unconfirmed as of yet).
-
Died at the end of the last arc but returned a week later through shenanigans. She was then whisked back to the Phoenix lands by the Phoenix daimyo, Isawa Honda, and the Elemental Council where they proceeded to lock her in a tower for a year supposedly to keep her isolated due to the Nothing making contact with her while she was dead. Has been broken out (thanks to Bayushi Siig and The Jade Champion) and has returned to Fa Ring Ye a changed person. Her betrothal to Bayushi Siig has been nullified by her daimyo and she has a lot of feelings about everything and little understanding of any of it at the moment. Shizuko was taken in and offered a place among the Dragon when seeking refuge from the dangers in her own clan and now considers the Tamori brothers, Sanada and Satoru, as her own family.
She has been made a Jade Magistrate and is making efforts to understand all that has transpired around her so that she can guide the other Magistrates and live up to the expectations those who freed her have.
-
In an effort to complete the ritual and destroy a store of Jade, two of the thirteen appeared at the Fallen Star theater in Heaven’s Bridge. The Jade Magistrates went to stop the death of Hida Voma and encountered “Determination”. Tamori Sanada attempted to pull himself and the physical body of Determination into the Void, but once the body was gone Fu Leng’s power manifested and headed toward Sanada.
Shizuko was not willing to let her newfound brothers die or worse to Fu Leng’s power and finally gave in to the persistence of the Nothing, accepting the offer to erase the existence of the Determination scroll. Once she did this she was immediately taken down by one who was instructed to do so if she gave in to the Nothing.

toturi sango | deceased
-
Sango is one of the more prominent figures that has been plucked from the depths of what seems to be another timeline of the Empire. Out of place, and outside of the existing power structure, she struggles to find how she fits into this timeline and with the other Jade Magistrates.
She did, however, find a place in Heaven’s Bridge as the recipient of many flowers and jewels as she was being courted by Miya Tozuno. Though his attentions seemed to illicit no response, the theft of said jewels did result in her becoming the proprietor of the Flowered Rest, now renamed Sango’s Rest.
-
In the attack by two of the 13 on the Fallen Star Theater, Sango was separated from the others. She held her own, burning up many oni-related worms before catching up with Hiruma Kitachi and Hida Voma fighting the embodiment of the “Strength” scroll. They defeated the physical body but Fu Leng’s power came for them once it was unbound. With a last great effort, she lunged toward the manifestation and a great Celestial Dragon roared from her blade as she gave all that she was to eradicate the scroll of Strength.
